Our Fav Holiday Season Cocktail Recipes Sure To Impress

One of the absolute BEST parts about the holiday season are the food and drinks. Here in Australia, we love to take advantage of the warm (or let's be honest, BLAZING) summer heat and stir up our favourite cocktails. While family is pouring in and and your hosting cap is on, why not try out some of these delicious holiday cocktails (and maybe impress your future mother-in-law in the process?) Grab your girls, some fresh ingredients and let's get tipsy!

Frosé: Floral, Fruity and so freaking Aesthetic 

 

This lovely cocktail looks and tastes like it should be splayed on the cover of a magazine but it's surprisingly easy to make. Rosé, fresh strawberries and a splash of citrus and coconut water makes a delicious and impressive holiday cocktail. Here are the deets:

 

Ingredients:

 1 x 750ml Bottle of Rosé (we really like Cote des Roses; pictured below)

 1/4 cup of Fresh Lime Juice

 250g Cored Fresh Strawberries

 250ml Coconut Water

 1/4 cup Liquid Cane sugar Syrup

 Instructions:

1. Combine all ingredients into a blender except the Rosé

2. Blend until the strawberries are liquified

3. Place blended mixture into a bowl that will hold 1.4L of liquid

4. Add 750ml Cotes des Roses

5. Place bowl in freezer and freeze overnight

Recipe makes 6-7 serves

White Sangria: Sweet, Refreshing and oh so Colourful

 

Another holiday favourite we have is the classic White Sangria. Always a crowd pleaser and loads of fun to make, this festive treat is perfect for party hosting or just lounging on the deck with your fiancé. Here's how to make it:

 

Ingredients:

1 x lime, thinly sliced into rounds

1 x lemon, thinly sliced into rounds

1/4 cup (50 g) organic cane sugar (or sub agave, powdered coconut sugar, maple syrup, or stevia to taste // for drier sangria, omit)

1/4 cup (60 ml) apple brandy (Laird’s Apple Jack brand)

1/2 organic green apple (90 g), cored, skin on, chopped into small pieces

1 x ripe peach or nectarine, thinly sliced (150 g)

1 cup (166 g) sliced strawberries

1 x 750 ml bottle dry, crisp white wine, chilled; Sauvignon Blanc adds a nice complexity, and Pinot Grigio works, too)

Instructions:

Add lime, lemon, and sugar (or other sweeteners) to a large pitcher and muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon for 45 seconds.

Add apple brandy and muddle again to combine for 30 seconds. Add apple, nectarine, and strawberries and stir to incorporate. Then add wine and stir once more.

Taste and adjust flavor as needed, adding more sweetener of choice for sweetness, lemon or lime juice for acidity, or fruit. Stir to combine.

Add ice or frozen berries and stir once more to chill. Serve as is or with a bit more ice and mint (optional). To dilute the mixture, top off glasses with a bit of sparkling water (optional).

Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, though best when enjoyed within the first 1-2 days.

Recipe makes 6-7 Serves

Feel like mixing it up and making a summer dessert (but like, the adult fun-kind?) Freeze the White Sangria into popsicle holders and make Sangria Popsicles!

Mulled Wine: Warm, Yummy and just the right amount of Spice

 

Mulled Wine is absolutely divine on a cold winter evening. Cuddle up with your future hubby while you drink this citrus and cinnamon cocktail that has our brides raving. Here's the super easy recipe:

 Ingredients:

1 x 750ml Bottle of Shiraz

1/2 cup of Caster Sugar

1 x washed Blood Orange

4 x Cloves

1 x Cinnamon Stick

Pinch of Nutmeg

1 x Lime

Instructions:

1. Juice half the orange and place in a large saucepan, cut the other half 8th's and put to the side

2. Juice the lime and zest the rind

3. Add the lime juice and rind to the saucepan along with caster sugar, cloves, cinnamon stick and nutmeg

4. Add just enough wine to cover and bring to boil

5. Simmer for 8-10 minutes, constantly  stirring until solution is reduced to a thick paste

6. Add the remaining wine and heat through

7. Garnish with slice of orange and cloves

Recipe makes 6-7 serves
