THE TOP SIX MISTAKES EVERY BRIDE TENDS TO MAKE
You’re engaged, planning your dream wedding and looking forward to hopefully the best day of your life to date. Though people have been getting married for like, EVER, we’ve found that there are a few mistakes that almost every bride tends to make. The good thing is, if you’re aware of them, you can correct them and end up saving yourself heaps of trouble! Below we have the top 6 mistakes that almost every bride makes. Happy reading x
1. TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF
We get it—it’s the day you’ve been dreaming of for years and you want to make sure it’s absolutely PERFECT, while still being you. This is a hole that many brides dig for themselves and fall into. Don’t accidentally disregard the fact that you have people around you who know and love you and are committed to having this day be just as magical as you want it to be. Though wanting to be the deciding factor of all the details of your day is important, remember that you’re one person and too much to personally manage becomes not only exhausting, but can cause important details to fall through the cracks. Our advice: DELEGATE DELEGATE DELEGATE.
2. OVERSPENDING ON THINGS THAT DON’T MATTER TO YOU
This tends to happen whenever a bride is either bombarded by those binge-worthy TV shows or gets bad advice from people who make their living off of the ‘minor details.’ For instance, if you are a bride who is wanting to have a community-oriented wedding and on the more casual and fun side with canapés, spending loads of cash on napkin holders is an unnecessary evil. Instead, make a list of absolute priorities to yourself and your groom and then work off of that.
3. IGNORING FAMILY
This may seem unlikely, but we’ve noticed and experienced that it can be very common for a bride and groom to be so consumed in the details of the day or, on the contrary, just trying to enjoy each other, that they can often forget to give special attention to family members. It can be easy for family to feel pushed to the side or less important than the bridal party so make sure to make them feel included and honoured. Dance with your dad, kiss your mom, take photos with your siblings. Make sure to set some time aside to greet your extended family and have them take part of the festivities.
4. CRASH DIETING
It’s pretty common for brides to want to lose that extra 20 pounds right before the big day, but be warned, this typically ends in disaster. Firstly, this puts so much extra pressure on the bride. Nibbling on a grape all day tends to bring out the worst in someone, which is something to be avoided during wedding season. Secondly, crash dieting can easily lead to crash gaining so it’s actually wiser to live out a routine that you can manage. Thirdly, finding a dress that you think you’ll love in 2 smaller sizes is risky. It’s better to find a dress you love in your current size and then alter if needed. Besides, the love of your life can't get enough of you in the body you’re in, so keep that in mind!
5. SPENDING TOO MUCH ON THE DRESS AND NOT CONSIDERING THE REST OF THE BRIDAL BUDGET
If you’re planning on spending $4,000 all together for the bridal look, remember that you’ll have to buy shoes, jewellery, a veil, undergarments, pay tax and possibly shipping and whatever extra accessories you’ll add to your whole bridal look.
6. FORGETTING TO ENJOY THIS INCREDIBLY FUN AND SPECIAL SEASON
They say the devil’s in the details, and maybe part of that has to do with the fact that details can tend to keep you away from the big picture—which is, you're committing the rest of your life to your true love in a super fun celebration! Remember to relax and sit in the joy and excitement that comes with engagement and being a newlywed!
